ESTATE PLANNING 101
Most people don’t avoid estate planning because they don’t care. They avoid it because it sounds complicated, expensive, or like something to deal with later. So it sits on the mental to-do list for years, quietly generating a low hum of guilt.
Here’s the good news: the basics are far more understandable than you’d think.
Estate Planning 101 is a free, one-hour live webinar for anyone who has never made a plan, started one and never finished it, or isn’t sure they need one at all. No legal background required, and nothing assumed about what you already know. We start at the beginning and stay in plain English the whole way through.
What we’ll cover:
What estate planning actually is, and what counts as your “estate” (usually more than people expect)
What happens when there’s no plan in place, and how state law fills in the blanks for you
Wills and trusts, explained without the jargon, and how to think about which one fits your situation
Powers of attorney and health care directives: who makes decisions for you if you can’t make them yourself
Naming a guardian if you have minor children
Why beneficiary designations on accounts matter, and how they interact with the rest of your plan
The most common myths that keep people from starting
What the process actually looks like when you’re ready to begin
Who this is for: honestly, most adults. If you’re in your twenties or thirties and figure you’re too young for this. If you rent and assume you need to own a home first. If you’re single, partnered, married, or somewhere in between. If you have kids, pets, a retirement account, or a car with your name on the title. And especially if your current plan is “my family will figure it out.”
The session runs about an hour on Zoom, with time for questions at the end. Bring whatever you’ve been wondering about. There is no such thing as a question that’s too basic here.
